Placing a notice means typing a dead person's name and dates, sometimes a photograph, and your own name and email address. This page says plainly what becomes of each of those. Lehigh Daily decides what is collected and published; Odewell is the software that stores it for them.

What is published

The notice itself — the name, the dates, the words, any photograph and the service details — is published on this site and is meant to be found. It goes into the site's search, its feed and its sitemap, which means search engines will index it.

What is never published

What we deliberately do not keep

We do not store your IP address. To stop one person flooding a guestbook, we keep a one-way scrambled fingerprint of it that cannot be turned back into an address or a location — that is the whole of what it can do.

The Odewell staff who support this site can look up a notice to answer a question about it. They see the notice, its history and whether it was paid. They do not see contact details.

The link we email you

After you submit, you get a link that opens your notice for editing. That link is the key — anyone holding it can open it — so it only ever arrives by email and is never shown on a page. If you lose it, ask for it again from find a notice you placed, and it is sent to the address that placed the notice and to no other.

How long things are kept

A published notice is kept indefinitely — that is the point of it. Lehigh Daily keeps a record of the notices it has run, including who placed them, because it is their archive of their own publication. Backups are kept for a short rolling window.

Asking for something to be changed or removed

Lehigh Daily holds this material and is who to ask. They can edit a notice, take it off the site, or ask us to remove it entirely. Write to them first; if you cannot reach them, write to us and we will put you in touch.

Who else sees it

Stripe, to take the payment. A mail service, to deliver the emails this site sends you. Photographs are stored with a file host. Nobody is sold anything, and there is no advertising network on these pages.
